Even heroes need a vacation—preferably one with good ale.
Archibold Stormblood once saved kingdoms, slew demon lords, and carved his name into legend. Now he just wants to keep his tavern open, his ale cold, and his barmaids from brawling with the patrons.
But for a hero in the bustling city of Meritas, quiet never lasts. Between meddling nobles, ruthless crime syndicates, a young templar on a desperate quest, and old legends that refuse to stay buried, Archibold’s vacation is starting to look a lot like another adventure...
Blending tavern banter, sharp wit, and bursts of fast-paced action, the Tipsy Pelican Tavern series is a character-driven fantasy full of heart, adventure, and cozy stories by the fire with over 40,000 copies sold.
Perfect for fans of Dungeon Crawler Carl, Discworld, and Legends & Lattes—and for anyone who loves reluctant heroes stumbling into trouble one pint at a time.
Newly updated and beautifully illustrated, this edition brings the Tipsy Pelican Tavern to life like never before. Listen on Audible, with dual narration by veteran voice actors Joshua Story and Laurie Catherine Winkel.

Even a Hero Needs a Vacation Every Now and Then turned out to be a really enjoyable read. The story itself is solid, but what really stood out to me was the magic system. The author has created a unique mix of styles and concepts that feel both creative and consistent across the book, which really kept me engaged. The character development is also well done—some characters are fleshed out in interesting ways, while others are left intentionally ambiguous, which makes you want to keep reading to learn more about them. It’s a good balance of giving answers while keeping just enough mystery alive. Overall, it’s a fun and well-written story with a fresh take on magic and world-building. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for more from this author.
I highly recommend this book. This book is funny, and yet mysterious.
This series is well written and enjoyable. Humorous, non-depressing with engaging characters. Looking forward to the next book in the series.
Slice of Life with a bit of Action, what could be better? I like this series.... No, I LOVE this series. And I am so glad there is another coming out! (5) For the record, I liked the original art, but I got the new books also. The series starts out as a small 'Mom and Pop' establishment against the big boys and somehow ends up in a brawl against a Big Bad by the end of the series. This is one of the few series I wish actually had some 15 or so books in it, unlike a lot of litRPG books that have 15 who should have stopped at 3-4. There's a light comedic tone that AI could never equal, and characters you want to know more about. There's nothing monotone about this series, it's a symphony of prose that will echo and live in your mind for a long, long time. I've come back to this small series again and again and only wish for more, more, MORE!
First book in a Fun fantasy series with a lot going on. I really enjoyed that it wasn’t too dark, and it was easy to keep tabs on the numerous characters. Definitely going to continue reading the next book in the series
